Paul Gartler

Paul Gartler is an Austrian goalkeeper born in Gleisdorf. He began his development with hometown club SC Gleisdorf before moving into the Rapid Vienna system. Gartler joined Rapid Vienna in July 2016 and was sent on loan to Kapfenberger SV to gain senior experience in Austria’s second tier. He made his professional debut for Kapfenberg against Austria Lustenau on 3 March 2017, featuring during loan spells that ran from 2016 to 2018. Returning to Vienna in July 2018, Gartler established himself as a dependable deputy within Rapid’s first-team squad. His opportunities have included stepping in when required, including appearances in the UEFA Conference League and Vienna derbies against Austria Wien. As a goalkeeper, Gartler contributes through positioning, shot-stopping and willingness to leave his line, while his distribution supports build-up play from the back.
