Rodrigo Hernández Cascante
Rodri, full name Rodrigo Hernández Cascante, is a Spanish defensive midfielder for Manchester City and the Spain national team. Born in Madrid in 1996, he developed at Rayo Majadahonda and Atlético Madrid before Atlético released him in 2013. Rodri then joined Villarreal, progressing through the club’s system to make his senior breakthrough and establish himself as a La Liga midfielder. Atlético brought him back in 2018, where he further developed his defensive positioning, tackling and aerial play. In 2019, he moved to Manchester City, becoming a central presence in Pep Guardiola’s possession-based midfield. Rodri scored the winning goal in City’s 2023 Champions League final victory over Inter Milan, a triumph within the club’s continental treble, and was named the competition’s Player of the Season. For Spain, Rodri was instrumental in the Euro 2024 triumph and received the tournament’s Player of the Tournament award before winning the 2024 Ballon d’Or.
