Jonathan Rodríguez Portillo attacks space, runs beyond the line, and threatens the back post as Portland Timbers' forward. Jonathan Rodríguez Portillo started out with Peñarol in 2013 and moved to Europe in 2015 with Benfica and Deportivo La Coruña, before peaking in Mexico with Cruz Azul. He thrives within tight spaces. A turning point came when he led Cruz Azul to the Guardianes 2021 title and he earned 31 Uruguay caps. In 2024 he joined Portland Timbers as a Designated Player and scored 16 goals in his debut season. Rodríguez Portillo is a right-footed attacker who can act as a 9 or inverted winger, constantly looking to attack space and finish moves. At club level he links play with quick one-touches and presses high to force turnovers from the front. He finishes moves from close range when given space in the box.
