Eray Ervin Cömert
Eray Ervin Cömert is a Swiss defender born in Rheinfelden on 4 February 1998. After developing at FC Concordia Basel, he joined FC Basel 1893’s academy in 2009 and won the Swiss U-18 Cup. Cömert made his professional debut for Basel against FC Zürich in May 2016, during a period that also brought Swiss league titles in 2016 and 2017. Loans at FC Lugano and FC Sion gave him senior experience before he returned to Basel and established himself in the first team. During the 2019–20 Champions League qualifying campaign, he scored against PSV Eindhoven. In January 2022, Cömert moved abroad to Valencia, later spending loan spells with Nantes and Valladolid. A centre-back noted for stepping out to intercept and helping build play with accurate passing, he has represented Switzerland at Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup.
