Christian Günter

Christian Günter is a German left-back who has spent his senior career with SC Freiburg. Born in Villingen-Schwenningen, he developed locally with FV Tennenbronn before joining Freiburg’s academy at 13. He captained Freiburg’s under-19 side to the 2012 DFB-Pokal der Junioren title, then made his first-team debut as a substitute against Greuther Fürth in December 2012. After becoming a regular, Günter scored his first Bundesliga goal against Schalke 04 during Freiburg’s 2014–15 relegation season. He stayed with the club and helped Freiburg return to the Bundesliga as 2. Bundesliga champions in 2016. Appointed captain in 2020, he later became Freiburg’s record Bundesliga appearance holder and remains a key figure for the club. Günter has also represented Germany, earning selection for UEFA Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup.
