The competition is organised by the Ligue Nationale de Football Professionnel (LNFP) under the oversight of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF). The federation provides the broader regulatory framework for Moroccan football, including competition rules, club eligibility and the standards governing professional football. These arrangements place the league within the wider African and international football structure.

The division is restricted to 16 professional clubs. Participation therefore depends not only on results in the league below but also on meeting the requirements associated with professional status, such as suitable facilities, financial administration and sporting organisation. League standings use the standard points system: a win earns three points, a draw earns one point and a defeat earns none. Clubs are first ordered by total points. If teams remain level, goal difference is used, followed by total goals scored.

Where a tie still affects a decisive position—such as the championship, relegation or qualification for continental competition—a play-off match at a neutral venue is required under the stated competition rules. Clubs that fail to retain their position in the top flight are relegated to Botola Pro 2, while successful second-tier sides move up through the established promotion system. At the top of the table, the champion and runner-up qualify for the CAF Champions League.
