Igor Zubeldia Elorza
Igor Zubeldia Elorza, commonly known as Zubeldia, is a Spanish defensive midfielder who has also developed into a central defender for Real Sociedad. Born in Azkoitia on 30 March 1997, he joined the club’s Zubieta academy at 11 and progressed to the reserve side, Sanse, in 2015. Zubeldia made his first-team debut on 13 May 2016, featuring in a 1–0 win over Valencia. Initially used as a holding midfielder, he helped recycle possession and protect the team’s defensive shape. His role later broadened under Imanol Alguacil, with regular appearances at centre-back. Zubeldia was part of the Real Sociedad side that won the 2019–20 Copa del Rey, ending the club’s long wait for the trophy. He also made his Champions League debut against Inter Milan in 2023 and remains with Real Sociedad.
