Zackary Thomas Steffen

Zackary Thomas Steffen is an American goalkeeper from Coatesville, Pennsylvania, whose route to the position began almost by accident. He started playing at five with West Bradford Youth Athletics and spent his early travel-soccer years as a defender for West Chester United. At 10, when his team’s regular goalkeeper was unavailable, Steffen moved into goal and quickly developed as a shot-stopper. He continued his development with FC DELCO and the Philadelphia Union Academy before entering the University of Maryland program in 2013. As a freshman, he helped Maryland win the NCAA championship and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Defensive Player. Steffen’s professional career has included Columbus Crew, Fortuna Düsseldorf, Manchester City and the Colorado Rapids, while he has also been involved with the United States national team. Across that progression, Zackary Steffen has developed from an accidental goalkeeper into an international-level player.
