Álvaro Álvarez Fernández

Álvaro Álvarez Fernández, known as Varo Álvarez, is a Spanish defender from Gijón, born on 28 January 2001. He developed in Asturias and was linked with Ceares before progressing through the regional game. Álvarez built his early senior experience in northern Spain, playing as a left-sided centre-back and also operating at left-back. His move to Andorra came on 1 January 2025, when he joined Atlètic Club d’Escaldes in the Primera Divisió. At the club, Álvarez has featured in the defensive line, contributing to build-up play and offering a left-footed option from the back. His physical presence and aerial ability support his work against direct attacks and at set pieces. A contract extension announced in June 2025 secured his continued involvement with Atlètic Club d’Escaldes through June 2026.
