Virgil van Dijk

Virgil van Dijk is a Dutch centre-back born in Breda in 1991. He developed at WDS'19 and Willem II before beginning his professional career with FC Groningen, where he made his Eredivisie debut in 2011. In 2013, Van Dijk moved to Celtic, establishing himself as a commanding defender and contributing in both boxes. He joined Southampton in 2015, became club captain in 2017, and earned recognition in the Premier League. Liverpool signed him in January 2018, and his composed defending, aerial strength and accurate distribution became central to the side's build-up. Van Dijk helped Liverpool reach consecutive Champions League finals, winning in 2019, before also winning the Premier League title in 2019–20. A Netherlands international, he brings leadership, positioning and recovery work to the national team while continuing to anchor Liverpool's defence.
