Vasilis Cornelius Barkas

Vasilis Cornelius Barkas is a Greek goalkeeper born in Zetten, Netherlands, on 30 May 1994. He moved to Greece early in life and joined Atromitos’ academy in 2006, signing his first professional contract with the club in 2013. Barkas made his Super League debut against PAOK in May 2015, then established himself as Atromitos’ first-choice goalkeeper during the 2015–16 season. In 2016, he transferred to AEK Athens, where he helped the club win the 2017–18 Super League title and recorded 22 clean sheets in 41 appearances during 2018–19. He joined Celtic in July 2020, but struggled to secure a sustained starting role in Scotland. A 2022 loan to Utrecht revived his career in the Eredivisie, and he signed permanently in 2023. Barkas has also represented Greece internationally. At 1.96 metres, he combines reach and reflexes with a strong presence in the area, while his distribution reflects the modern goalkeeper role.
