Volkan Babacan

Volkan Babacan is a Turkish goalkeeper born in Antalya on 11 August 1988. He began playing in his hometown with Sidespor before joining Fenerbahçe at 14, and he emerged as Turkey’s goalkeeper at the 2005 FIFA U-17 World Championship, helping the team finish third. Babacan found senior opportunities limited at Fenerbahçe and spent loan periods with İstanbulspor and Kayserispor. In 2011, he moved to Manisaspor, where regular football over the following three seasons helped re-establish his career. Babacan joined Başakşehir in July 2014 and became part of the club’s sustained rise in Turkish football. He was in the Başakşehir squad that won the 2019–20 Süper Lig, the club’s first league title. For Türkiye, he took the starting role during the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign and started all three of the team’s matches at the finals in France.
