Unai Núñez Gestoso

Unai Núñez is a Spanish centre-back born in Portugalete on 30 January 1997. He developed in Athletic Club’s Lezama academy before progressing through CD Basconia and Bilbao Athletic. Núñez made his Athletic first-team debut against Getafe in August 2017 and quickly established himself in the senior squad. Across his Athletic Club spell from 2017 to 2022, he competed for a regular central-defensive role and helped the club win the 2021 Supercopa de España. He moved to Celta Vigo in 2022, continuing his career in La Liga and adding experience to his defensive game, and is currently listed with Espanyol. At international level, Núñez started Spain’s 2–1 victory over Germany in the 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championship final. He made his senior Spain debut later that year against the Faroe Islands, entering as a substitute for Sergio Ramos.
