Tomás Lemos Araújo

Tomás Araújo is a Portuguese centre-back born in Famalicão on 16 May 2002. He developed at Benfica’s Seixal academy and progressed through the club’s youth system before making his senior debut for Benfica’s reserve side in 2020. Araújo then reached Benfica’s first team, debuting in the Taça da Liga in December 2021. He helped Benfica’s Under-19 side win the UEFA Youth League in 2021–22, adding an important achievement to his development. During the 2022–23 season, he joined Gil Vicente on loan and made 22 Primeira Liga appearances. Returning to Benfica, Araújo established himself as a composed defender who contributes to build-up play and can also operate at right-back when required. He has also been involved with Portugal’s senior side while continuing his development at Benfica.
