Tiago Filipe Alves Araújo

Tiago Araújo is a Portuguese defender born in Vila do Conde on 27 March 2001. He developed at EF Macieira da Maia and CB Póvoa Lanhoso before joining Benfica’s Seixal academy in 2011. At Benfica, he initially played as a forward or left winger, but later moved into a defensive role. Araújo made his senior debut for Benfica B in September 2020, then appeared for the first team in the Taça de Portugal against Paredes that November. Seeking regular senior football, he joined Estoril Praia, where he played at left-back and wing-back between 2022 and 2024. In August 2024, Araújo transferred to Gent, continuing his development in Belgium as a left-sided defender. At 1.84m, he combines defensive work with forward movement, crossing and long-range distribution, giving Gent an outlet in build-up and attack.
