Tobias Sippel

Tobias Sippel is a German goalkeeper born in Bad Dürkheim on 22 March 1988. He began at SV 1911 Bad Dürkheim before joining the 1. FC Kaiserslautern academy in 1998, later appearing for the club’s second team in the Regionalliga Süd. Initially third choice, Sippel moved into Kaiserslautern’s senior side during the 2007–08 campaign and helped the club avoid relegation to the 3. Liga. He became the team’s first-choice goalkeeper as Kaiserslautern won the 2. Bundesliga in 2009–10 and returned to the top flight. Sippel also belonged to Germany’s squad for the victorious 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Championship and received a senior call-up in 2010. In July 2015, he joined Borussia Mönchengladbach on a free transfer, where he developed into an experienced deputy. At Gladbach, Tobias Sippel has remained available behind the established first-choice goalkeepers while contributing experience and leadership.
