James Tanner Beason

James Tanner Beason is an American defender for the New England Revolution. Born in Winston-Salem in 1997, he developed with North Carolina Fusion, captaining its under-18 side during the 2014–15 season. Beason attended Stanford, where he was part of teams that won three consecutive NCAA championships from 2015 to 2017 and four Pac-12 titles. After playing left-back in 2016 and 2017, he moved to centre-back and in 2018 became the first Pac-12 player named both Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. San Jose Earthquakes selected Beason 12th overall in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft, and he made his professional debut that season. Across five seasons with San Jose, he operated mainly at centre-back while also covering left-back and right-back, reaching career highs of 28 appearances and 25 starts in 2022. Beason joined New England as a free agent in December 2024, continuing a career marked by versatility.
