Takahiro Akimoto

Takahiro Akimoto is a Japanese midfielder from Utsunomiya, born on January 31, 1998. He developed with Tochigi SC U18 before spending four years at Kokushikan University. Akimoto began his professional career with Tochigi SC in 2020, making an immediate impact in the J2 League with seven goals in 40 appearances. In 2021, he moved to Urawa, where his role broadened across the left side and included defensive work from full-back and wing-back positions. During his Urawa spell, he was part of teams that won the 2021 Emperor’s Cup, the 2022 Japanese Super Cup and the 2022 AFC Champions League. Akimoto later continued his career in Belgium with OH Leuven, initially joining from Urawa on loan before the move became permanent. He is now associated with Machida Zelvia, with pressing, running and positional flexibility remaining central to his game.
