Sepp van den Berg

Sepp van den Berg is a Dutch centre-back born in Zwolle on 20 December 2001. He began at CSV '28 before joining PEC Zwolle’s academy in 2012, initially playing as a winger before moving into central defence. Van den Berg made his Eredivisie debut for PEC Zwolle in 2018 and attracted attention during the 2018–19 campaign. Liverpool signed him in July 2019, and he made four senior appearances in domestic cup competitions during his first season while being part of their 2019 FIFA Club World Cup-winning squad. Loans to Preston North End, Schalke 04 and Mainz 05 provided regular senior football, with Preston also using him at right-back or wing-back. At Mainz, he played in the Bundesliga before leaving Liverpool permanently for Brentford in August 2024. Van den Berg has since continued his development as a right-footed central defender, offering positional versatility, aerial strength and composure in build-up.
