Sandro Tonali

Sandro Tonali is an Italian defensive midfielder born in Lodi on 8 May 2000. He began playing at Lombardia Uno as a striker before joining Piacenza and entering Brescia’s academy in 2012, where coaches moved him into a deeper playmaking role. Tonali made his Serie B debut for Brescia at 17 and helped the club win promotion to Serie A in 2019, earning Serie B’s best young player award in consecutive years. He joined AC Milan on loan in 2020, then made the move permanent and became a key figure in the 2021–22 Serie A title-winning side. In July 2023, Tonali transferred to Newcastle United, where he has operated both as a deep midfielder and a right-sided No. 8. He has also represented Italy at international level and returned to Newcastle after a 10-month ban imposed in 2023 for gambling offences.
