Sebastian Schonlau
Sebastian Schonlau is a German midfielder who developed from local football in Warburg into a professional with SC Paderborn 07. Born in Warburg on 5 August 1994, he began his football education with SF 08 Warburg before joining Paderborn’s academy. He signed his first professional contract with Paderborn in December 2012. During a 2014–15 loan at SC Verl, Schonlau played primarily as a defensive midfielder and gained experience in a deeper role. After returning to Paderborn in 2015, he became part of the team’s climb from the 3. Liga to the Bundesliga. Paderborn’s Bundesliga campaign in 2019–20 included two goals for Schonlau. In May 2021, he joined Hamburger SV and was appointed captain soon afterwards. He helped HSV return to the Bundesliga in 2024–25 and is currently listed with Holstein Kiel.
