Saku Savolainen
Saku Savolainen is a Finnish defender who has spent his senior career with Kuopion Palloseura (KuPS). He joined the club’s setup as a youngster and made his professional debut against JJK on 23 May 2013, aged 16. Initially used as a forward or winger, Savolainen later developed into a right-sided defender and wing-back, bringing attacking instincts to a more demanding defensive role. His career was interrupted by a serious injury that ruled him out for the 2021 season, but he returned in May 2022 and scored in a 5–1 Finnish Cup victory over Ekenäs IF. With KuPS, he won the Veikkausliiga in 2019, 2024 and 2025, and lifted the Finnish Cup in 2021, 2022 and 2024. Savolainen has also been part of KuPS’s recent European progress, including the club’s 2025 Conference League knockout-round campaign. His long service makes him a notable one-club figure in Finnish football.
