Sotirios Papagiannopoulos

Sotirios Papagiannopoulos is a Swedish defender born in Stockholm on 5 September 1990. He developed in AIK’s system before beginning his senior career with Väsby United from 2008 to 2010, then spending four seasons with Assyriska FF in Sweden’s second tier. In January 2015, Papagiannopoulos moved to PAOK, where he made seven appearances before leaving that summer. He returned to Sweden with Östersunds FK, developing under Graham Potter into a defender trusted to contribute in possession as well as protect the penalty area. His standout European campaign came in 2017–18, when Östersunds eliminated Galatasaray and PAOK and won at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium in the Europa League. Those performances earned him a 2018 transfer to FC Copenhagen, where he won the 2018–19 Superliga title. After 71 official appearances for Copenhagen, he returned to AIK in August 2020 and made his Sweden debut in 2018.
