Sergey Mkrtchyan

Sergey Mkrtchyan is an Armenian defensive midfielder born in Yerevan on 26 June 2001. He developed in FC Urartu’s academy and played for the club’s reserve side, Urartu II, before moving to BKMA Yerevan in 2019 for senior experience in Armenia’s First League. Mkrtchyan returned to Urartu in summer 2021 and established himself in the first team during the 2021–22 and 2022–23 seasons. Operating primarily as a holding or central midfielder, he receives possession from defence, helps progress the ball and protects the back four through positioning and passing-lane coverage. His consistency earned him a nomination for Armenia’s Footballer of the Year award in 2022. Mkrtchyan made his senior international debut for Armenia in a friendly against Kosovo on 16 November 2022. He remains linked with FC Urartu, where his deep-lying playmaking gives the Yerevan side control in midfield.
