Sergiy Maliy

Sergiy Maliy is a Kazakhstan international defender born on 5 June 1990 in Lugansk, Ukraine. He developed in the Luhansk football system and began his senior career in Ukraine, representing Komunalnyk Luhansk, Ros Bila Tserkva and Arsenal Bila Tserkva before a brief appearance for Zorya Lugansk. In 2013, Maliy moved to Kazakhstan and joined Shakhter Karagandy, beginning a long career in the country’s top flight. He later played for Ordabasy and FC Astana, gaining experience with leading Kazakhstan clubs and in European competitions. From 2020, he continued his career with Tobol Kostanay before returning to Ordabasy in 2023. At 1.91 metres, Maliy brings height and strength to central defence, with aerial ability also making him useful at attacking set pieces. He has represented Kazakhstan in international competition, including qualifying campaigns, and has been a veteran presence in the national team’s defensive ranks.
