Sota Kawasaki
Sota Kawasaki is a Japanese midfielder born in Kōfu on 30 July 2001. He developed at Ventforet Kofu, joining the club’s youth system at U-12 level before moving to Kyoto Sanga’s U-18 academy in 2017. Promoted to Kyoto’s senior team in 2020, Kawasaki became an important defensive midfielder and helped the club win promotion to the J1 League in 2021, a season in which he led J2 with 149 tackles. He later captained Kyoto and made 179 appearances for Sanga before pursuing a European move. Kawasaki moved to FSV Mainz 05 in 2025, where he has operated in midfield, combining pressing and ball recovery with composed distribution. He also represented Japan at the Paris 2024 Olympics, appearing in group-stage victories before the team lost to Spain in the quarter-finals.
