Samuel Luke Johnstone

Samuel Luke Johnstone is an English goalkeeper born in Preston on 25 March 1993. He joined Manchester United’s academy at age 10 after beginning as an outfield player at Euxton Villa, and he was part of United’s 2011 FA Youth Cup-winning team. Johnstone developed through loan spells with clubs including Oldham Athletic, Scunthorpe United, Walsall, Doncaster Rovers and Preston North End, gaining senior experience across the English leagues. With Preston, he kept a clean sheet in the 2015 League One play-off final as the club won promotion to the Championship. A loan at Aston Villa in 2017–18 brought further recognition, with Johnstone recording more Championship clean sheets than any other goalkeeper during that spell. He joined West Bromwich Albion permanently in 2018, played every minute of their 2019–20 promotion campaign, and later led the Premier League in saves despite the club’s relegation. After representing Crystal Palace, Johnstone moved to Wolverhampton Wanderers in August 2024 and has also played for England, making his senior debut against Romania in June 2021.
