Samir Sophian Chergui

Samir Sophian Chergui is a French centre-back born in Arpajon on 6 February 1999. He began playing at CS Brétigny as an attacking midfielder before joining the AJ Auxerre academy at 14. Chergui progressed to Auxerre’s reserve side and signed his first professional contract in June 2019. After leaving Auxerre, he joined Paris FC in July 2020, initially on a reserve contract. He made his professional debut against AC Ajaccio in Ligue 2 on 8 January 2021. His development included a move into central defence, where his 1.85-metre frame, aerial ability and passing help him build attacks from the back. Chergui scored his first professional goal with a header against Amiens SC in May 2022. Born in France, he later received a senior Algeria call-up and became involved with the national team.
