Rodrigo Gómez Mateo

Rodrigo Gómez Mateo, commonly known as Rodri, is a Spanish midfielder from Orihuela, born on 9 February 1989. He developed in Spain before moving to Iceland, joining KA Akureyri in February 2020. At KA Akureyri, Rodri has established himself as a durable presence in the Icelandic top flight and has made more than 150 appearances for the club. He operates mainly as a defensive or central midfielder, while also covering at centre-back when required. In build-up, he can drop between defenders to support circulation, while defensively he screens the back line and anticipates passing lanes. During the 2025 season, Rodri completed 88.09 percent of his passes across 22 matches and received five yellow cards. He also featured for KA Akureyri in the 2025–26 UEFA Conference League qualifiers, extending a career built on positional discipline and reliable distribution.
