Raúl Fernández-Cavada Mateos

Raúl Fernández, whose full name is Raúl Fernández-Cavada Mateos, is a Spanish goalkeeper born in Bilbao on 13 March 1988. Standing 1.95 metres tall, he began developing at Athletic Club’s Lezama academy after joining at the age of 10. Fernández progressed through Athletic’s reserve side and gained senior experience on loan with UB Conquense and Granada CF. During the 2009–10 season, he was Granada’s most-used goalkeeper as the club secured promotion to the Segunda División. After returning to Athletic, he made his La Liga debut in a 2–1 victory over Real Sociedad in April 2011. Fernández later built a broad second-tier career with clubs including Levante, Las Palmas and Mirandés, where he played 46 matches in the 2024–25 season. He also returned to Granada and helped the club achieve promotion to the top flight, while his height and reach have supported his work in the area and between the posts.
