Rubén Estephan Vargas Martínez

Rubén Estephan Vargas Martínez is a Swiss forward who plays primarily as a right winger. Born in Adligenswil on 5 August 1998, he developed in the FC Luzern system after beginning in local football, with a spell at SC Kriens during his youth. Vargas made his professional breakthrough with FC Luzern in 2017 and became a regular before moving to FC Augsburg in 2019. Across more than five seasons in Germany, he combined direct dribbling and movement between the flank and half-space with defensive work rate, producing 23 goals and 19 assists in 161 appearances. In January 2025, Vargas joined Sevilla, continuing his career in Spain. Internationally, he represents Switzerland and featured at the 2022 World Cup and UEFA Euro 2020 and Euro 2024. His performance against Italy at Euro 2024, when he scored and assisted in a 2–0 win, was a defining moment.
