Ross James Sykes
Ross James Sykes is an English defender born in Burnley on 26 March 1999. He joined Burnley’s academy at 11 but was released at 13 before earning a second chance with Accrington Stanley after a growth spurt. Sykes signed professionally in 2016 and developed into a regular League One centre-back, making 131 appearances and scoring 11 goals for Accrington. In June 2022, he moved to Belgian club Union Saint-Gilloise for an undisclosed fee. At Union, his 196cm frame makes him a force in aerial duels and a threat at set pieces, while his passing supports play from the back. He helped the club win the 2023–24 Belgian Cup, scoring in the semi-final against Club Brugge, and later lifted the 2024–25 Pro League title and Belgian Super Cup. During the 2025–26 campaign, Sykes made his Champions League debut and faced Newcastle United, the club he supported as a boy.
