Romano Christian Schmid

Romano Christian Schmid is an Austrian attacking midfielder, born in Graz on 27 January 2000. He developed at USV Vasoldsberg before joining Sturm Graz’s academy in 2009, and made his Austrian Bundesliga debut in May 2017. Later that year, Schmid moved to Red Bull Salzburg, winning the 2017/18 Austrian Bundesliga title while developing competitively with FC Liefering. In January 2019, Werder Bremen signed him, and he spent the following 18 months on loan at Wolfsberger AC, gaining Austrian top-flight and Europa League experience. Returning to Bremen for 2020/21, he established himself in the first team and helped the club return to the Bundesliga in 2022. Primarily a No. 10, Schmid can also play wide or deeper, using close control, progressive carries and passing to connect midfield with attack. He scored his first goal for Austria against the Netherlands at Euro 2024.
