Rúnar Alex Rúnarsson

Rúnar Alex Rúnarsson is an Icelandic goalkeeper born in Reykjavík on 18 February 1995. He began his development at KR Reykjavík before moving to Denmark’s FC Nordsjælland, where he established himself as a senior starter and developed a composed, technical approach to playing from the back. His performances in Denmark led to a transfer to Dijon FCO, giving Rúnarsson experience in France’s Ligue 1. In 2020, he joined Arsenal, where he made appearances including Europa League matches and competed for a place in the first-team goalkeeping group. During his Arsenal period, Rúnarsson spent loan spells with OH Leuven in Belgium and Alanyaspor in Turkey, gaining opportunities to restore regular match rhythm. At international level, he was included in Iceland’s squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, although he did not play in the tournament. Rúnarsson is now listed with FC Copenhagen, continuing a career shaped by distribution, proactive positioning and movement between European leagues.
