Roope Paunio

Roope Paunio is a Finnish goalkeeper who was born on 14 December 2002. He developed in FC Honka’s youth system in Espoo, progressing to Honka Akatemia. The reserve side gave him senior experience in Finland’s Kakkonen, where he made 57 appearances between 2018 and 2023. Paunio was part of Honka’s League Cup-winning squad in 2022 and the team that reached the Finnish Cup final in 2023. Following Honka’s collapse late in 2023, he moved to SJK Seinäjoki and established himself in the Veikkausliiga. In 2025, Paunio played 28 league matches, recording a save percentage of about 67.8 percent and conceding 1.61 goals per 90 minutes. He made his Finland under-21 debut against Slovenia in March 2025. At SJK, his role combines shot-stopping with buildup involvement and proactive positioning behind the defensive line.
