Remi Luke Matthews

Remi Luke Matthews is an English goalkeeper born in Gorleston on 10 February 1994. He developed in the Norwich City academy, spending 14 years with the club but not making a senior competitive appearance for the Canaries. Matthews gained experience through loans with Burton Albion, Doncaster Rovers, Hamilton Academical and Plymouth Argyle between 2014 and 2018. His Hamilton spell brought Scottish Premiership football, while two periods at Plymouth gave him an important role in the club’s League One relegation battle. After joining Bolton Wanderers permanently in January 2019 following an initial loan, he made 48 appearances during a difficult period for the club. Matthews moved to Sunderland in 2020 and was part of their 2020–21 EFL Trophy-winning campaign. In July 2021, he joined Crystal Palace, where he became a senior Premier League goalkeeping option and made his Premier League debut as a substitute against Liverpool in December 2023.
