Piero Martín Hincapié Reyna

Piero Martín Hincapié Reyna is an Ecuadorian centre-back born in Esmeraldas on 9 January 2002. He developed through youth football in Ecuador, moving from local clubs to Norte América before joining Independiente del Valle’s academy in 2016. Hincapié made his senior debut for Independiente del Valle in 2019 and helped the club’s under-20 side win the 2020 Copa Libertadores, starting the final. In August 2020, he moved to Talleres Córdoba, where his performances and Ecuador’s 2021 Copa América campaign preceded a transfer to Bayer Leverkusen in August 2021. At Leverkusen, Hincapié became an important left-sided defender during the unbeaten 2023–24 season, which brought the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal titles. He also operates at left-back or as a wide centre-back, combining recovery pace with progressive passing and aggressive positioning. Hincapié debuted for Ecuador in 2021, started all their 2022 World Cup matches, and joined Arsenal on loan in September 2025.
