Owen Gene

Owen Gene is a French midfielder from Nanterre who developed through several academy systems. At US Croissy and FC Versailles 78, he built his early foundation before joining Amiens in 2018, progressing through the club’s youth ranks. Gene signed his first professional contract with Amiens in 2021. He made his Ligue 2 debut against Le Havre in November that year. At Amiens, he developed from a player sometimes viewed as a right-back into a central defensive midfielder, where he screened the defence and helped begin attacks. In February 2025, Minnesota United acquired Gene, who now forms part of the club’s squad in Major League Soccer. For Minnesota, his role has included tactical substitutions and starts. Gene plays with a front-foot defensive approach, uses his frame in duels, and keeps possession with short passes while also offering longer distribution.
