Mariano González Maroto

Nano, whose full name is Mariano González Maroto, is a Spanish defender born in Málaga on 27 October 1984. He developed in Andalusian football and began his senior career with clubs including UD Fuengirola Los Boliches, UD Marbella and FC Cartagena. During the 2005–06 season, he was part of Gimnàstic de Tarragona’s squad as it won promotion to La Liga, and he also had a spell with Barcelona Atlètic. After further experience in Spain, including Cádiz and Ponferradina, Nano moved to Panathinaikos in 2013. There, he transitioned from a wide midfield role into left-back and played across three seasons. He returned to Spain with Almería in 2016, making 72 Segunda División appearances over two seasons. Nano joined Lincoln Red Imps in 2022, continuing his career in Gibraltar as a defender with experience across Spain, Greece and Gibraltar.
