Nicolás Fonseca

Nicolás Fonseca is an Italian midfielder born in Naples on 19 October 1998. He developed in the youth systems of AC Milan and Novara before leaving Italy to continue his career in Uruguay. After joining River Plate in Montevideo in late 2021, Fonseca adapted to the demands of Uruguayan football and established himself in central midfield. His performances later earned him a move to River Plate in Argentina in 2024, extending a career that had crossed European and South American football. Fonseca has been described as a deep-lying midfielder who helps build attacks, switches play with longer passes and protects the defence through tackling and positioning. Standing 1.81 metres tall, Nicolás Fonseca remains associated with a midfield role built around circulation, recovery and progression.
