Matheus Luiz Nunes

Matheus Nunes is a central midfielder for Manchester City and the Portugal national team. Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1998, he moved to Portugal with his mother at 12 and developed in local football with Ericeirense. He joined Estoril Praia in 2018, initially featuring for the club’s under-23 side. Sporting CP brought Nunes to Lisbon in January 2019, where he progressed into the first team and helped win the 2020–21 Primeira Liga title. In August 2022, he moved to Wolverhampton Wanderers, continuing his rise in English football. Manchester City signed Nunes in September 2023, adding a dynamic ball-carrier to their midfield options. At City, Matheus Nunes has also been used at right-back, reflecting his pace, physicality and ability to carry the ball through pressure while representing Portugal internationally.
