Maximilian Wöber

Maximilian Wöber is an Austrian centre-back born in Vienna on February 4, 1998. He developed through Viennese football before joining Rapid Vienna, where he made his senior debut as a teenager. In 2017, Wöber moved to Ajax, gaining experience in the Netherlands before a brief spell with Sevilla. He then returned to Austria with Red Bull Salzburg, becoming an important defender in a high-intensity team and winning domestic league and cup doubles. Leeds United signed Wöber in January 2023, after which he also spent time with Borussia Mönchengladbach before joining FC Schalke 04. At international level, he progressed from Austria’s youth teams to the senior side and represented his country at Euro 2024. Initially developed as a left-back, Wöber has established himself centrally, using his height and positioning to contest aerial duels and support build-up play.
