Maarten Vandevoordt

Maarten Vandevoordt is a Belgian goalkeeper born in Sint-Truiden on 26 February 2002. He developed in Genk’s academy and represented Belgium from under-15 through under-21 level. Vandevoordt made his senior debut for Genk in September 2019 at the age of 17. In December 2019, he started against Napoli in the Champions League, becoming the competition’s youngest goalkeeper at 17 years and 287 days; an error in possession led to an early goal during Genk’s 4–0 defeat. By February 2021, Vandevoordt had established himself as Genk’s first-choice goalkeeper and helped the club win the 2020/21 Belgian Cup. He then played in 45 of Genk’s 48 matches in the 2021/22 season before Leipzig agreed his transfer in April 2022, with the move completed in July 2024. At RB Leipzig, he initially provided cover for Péter Gulácsi while continuing his development as a modern goalkeeper valued for composure, distribution and actions beyond his line.
