Matthieu Udol

Matthieu Udol is a French defender who operates primarily at left-back and was born in Metz on 20 March 1996. He developed at FC Metz, spending 19 seasons in the club’s structure before making a half-season loan move to Belgian sister club RFC Seraing in late 2015. Udol made his senior Metz debut on 18 March 2016, beginning a long association with his hometown side. His progress was interrupted by four anterior cruciate ligament injuries between 2016 and 2021, but he repeatedly returned to competitive football. He helped Metz win the Ligue 2 title in 2018–19 and later became vice-captain before taking the captain’s armband. In 2024–25, Udol scored twice in the second leg of the promotion playoff against Reims as Metz returned to Ligue 1. He joined RC Lens in July 2025, adding experience on the left flank and the ability to contribute as a wing-back or left-sided centre-back.
