Malick Laye Thiaw

Malick Laye Thiaw is a Germany international centre-back born in Düsseldorf on 8 August 2001. Right-footed and 191 centimetres tall, he developed in the academies of Fortuna Düsseldorf, Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Mönchengladbach before joining Schalke 04 in 2015. Thiaw progressed through Schalke’s Knappenschmiede and made his Bundesliga debut in March 2020. He remained with the Gelsenkirchen club until 2022, gaining senior experience during its relegation and promotion period. He then moved to AC Milan, where he developed into a regular defender and featured in important Champions League matches. Thiaw joined Newcastle United in 2025, adding positional versatility to his centre-back role and contributing to the club’s defensive options. At international level, he made his Germany debut against Poland in June 2023. With his size, right-footed distribution and experience across Germany, Italy and England, Malick Thiaw represents a modern defensive profile.
