Mats Rits

Mats Rits is a Belgian defensive midfielder born in Antwerp on 18 July 1993. He developed at Beerschot and made his senior breakthrough as a teenager, quickly attracting attention beyond Belgium. In January 2013, Rits returned to Belgian football with KV Mechelen, where he developed into a disciplined and dependable central midfielder over five seasons. Club Brugge signed him in 2018, and he became an important part of a side that won three consecutive Belgian Pro League titles from 2020 to 2022. Rits also gained substantial UEFA Champions League experience with Club Brugge, contributing through his positional discipline and work in midfield. In August 2023, he moved directly from Club Brugge to Anderlecht, one of Belgian football’s notable domestic rivalries. At Anderlecht, Mats Rits has continued to operate primarily as a holding midfielder, helping protect the defence, circulate possession and maintain team shape.
