Matthew Ryan Polster
Matthew Ryan Polster is an American defender who has also played extensively as a defensive midfielder and right-back. Born in Milwaukee, he developed in Las Vegas before starring for Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where he started all 79 matches he played. Chicago Fire selected Polster seventh overall in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft, and he began his professional career in midfield while earning a Rookie of the Year nomination. In 2017, he moved to right-back and produced a career-high seven assists. Polster joined Rangers in 2019, making 10 appearances and debuting in the UEFA Europa League. He returned to Major League Soccer with New England Revolution in 2020, refining his role as a screening No. 6. Polster helped New England win the 2021 Supporters’ Shield. He also represented the United States in 2018.
