Matti Peltola

Matti Peltola is a Finnish defender from Espoo who developed through Keimolan Kaiku before joining HJK Helsinki’s academy at age 10. He made his professional HJK debut in October 2019 and progressed from central defence into a versatile role that also included defensive midfield. With HJK, Peltola won the Suomen Cup in 2020, three successive Veikkausliiga titles from 2021 to 2023, and the Finnish League Cup in 2023. He also gained European experience in the Champions League qualifiers, Europa League and Europa Conference League. Peltola made his Finland senior debut against Estonia in January 2023 and later appeared in Euro 2024 qualifying. In early 2024, he moved to D.C. United, where he has continued to combine midfield screening with the ability to cover at centre-back. His recovery work, defensive reading and passing support both protection and the first phase of build-up.
