Maarten Vincent Paes

Maarten Vincent Paes is a Dutch goalkeeper born in Nijmegen on 14 May 1998. He developed with VV Union and NEC Nijmegen before joining FC Utrecht in 2018, making his Eredivisie debut that August in a 2–0 win over PEC Zwolle. Paes later became Utrecht’s first-choice goalkeeper, although a shoulder-blade injury interrupted his progress and contributed to periods of rotation. In February 2022, he moved to FC Dallas on loan, with the transfer becoming permanent in June, and established himself as a prominent MLS shot-stopper. His 2024 season brought 121 saves, selection for the MLS All-Star Game and the MLS Save of the Year for a double penalty save against LA Galaxy. Paes also represented the Netherlands at youth level before becoming eligible for Indonesia, debuting against Saudi Arabia in September 2024 and saving a penalty in a 1–1 draw. He subsequently returned to the Netherlands with Ajax, adding an experienced, reaction-based goalkeeper to the club’s squad.
