Matthew Miazga

Matthew Miazga is an American defender born in Clifton, New Jersey, on July 19, 1995. He joined the New York Red Bulls academy at under-14 level in 2009 and helped its under-16 team win the 2012 U.S. Soccer Development Academy National Championship. In 2013, Miazga signed as a Homegrown player with the Red Bulls, later establishing himself in their defense during the 2015 season and helping the club win the Supporters’ Shield. Chelsea signed him in January 2016, after which he developed through loan spells with Vitesse, Reading, Anderlecht, Alavés and Nantes. With Vitesse, he won the 2016–17 KNVB Cup. Miazga chose the United States internationally, making his senior debut in 2015 and featuring in Gold Cup and Nations League-winning squads. He joined FC Cincinnati in 2022 and was named MLS Defender of the Year in 2023.
